There are darknesses in life and their are lights,
And you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.

Love at First Fright

Sarah and Mike’s story began at a Halloween haunted house in Portland, Oregon. Sarah was working as a zombie bride, tasked with jumping out to scare visitors. Mike, dragged along by friends, wasn’t particularly brave when it came to haunted attractions. When Sarah leaped from her hiding spot, Mike let out a yelp so genuine and hilarious that she broke character and started laughing.

“I couldn’t help it,” Sarah recalls. “His scream was adorable, and when I apologized for breaking the spell, he asked if I’d like to grab coffee after my shift to make up for the heart attack I’d given him.”

That coffee date turned into a relationship, and three years later, they got married on Halloween. Their wedding photos feature them in vintage Halloween costumes, surrounded by autumn leaves and carved pumpkins. “We joke that our relationship started with death and fear, but it’s been nothing but life and love ever since,” Mike says with a grin.

A Costume Party Connection

Jessica had sworn off dating apps after a string of disappointing matches. Her friend convinced her to attend a Halloween costume party, promising it would be a fun distraction. Jessica dressed as Morticia Addams, complete with a flowing black dress and pale makeup.

Across the room, David had arrived as Gomez Addams. They spotted each other simultaneously, and the coincidence was too perfect to ignore. David walked over and, channeling his character, kissed Jessica’s hand dramatically. “Cara mia,” he said in his best Gomez impression.

The chemistry was instant. They spent the entire evening talking, discovering they shared a love for classic horror films, autumn hikes, and terrible puns. “It felt like fate,” Jessica says. “What are the odds we’d both choose the same couple’s costume without knowing each other?”

Two years later, they’re still together and make it a tradition to coordinate their Halloween costumes every year. Their advice for singles? “Don’t underestimate the power of a good costume party.”

The Ghost Tour Romance

Amanda signed up for a ghost tour in Savannah, Georgia, hoping to learn about the city’s haunted history. She didn’t expect to meet Tom, the tour guide whose passion for local legends was contagious. As he led the group through moonlit streets and cemetery gates, Amanda found herself captivated by more than just the stories.

After the tour ended, she lingered, asking Tom questions about his favorite haunted locations. He offered to show her a few spots that weren’t on the official route, and they spent hours walking and talking. “There was something magical about exploring the city at night,” Amanda remembers. “It felt like we were the only two people in the world.”

They exchanged numbers, and Amanda extended her trip by a few days. Long-distance was challenging at first, but they made it work. Now, Amanda has relocated to Savannah, and they lead ghost tours together every October. “People always ask if we’ve seen any real ghosts,” Tom laughs. “I tell them I found something better—true love.”

Trick-or-Treating Sweethearts

Not all Halloween love stories involve adults. Emily and Jake were childhood friends who went trick-or-treating together every year. At age ten, Jake gave Emily his favorite candy bar because she’d missed out on the full-size Snickers at the house down the street. It was a small gesture, but Emily never forgot it.

They drifted apart during high school, running in different social circles. Years later, they reconnected at a mutual friend’s Halloween party. Emily was surprised to see Jake, now grown up but still with that same kind smile. They spent the night catching up, reminiscing about their trick-or-treating adventures.

“I asked if he still gave away his favorite candy to people he cared about,” Emily says. “He told me he’d been saving his heart for someone special.”

They’ve been dating for five years now and recently got engaged on Halloween night, returning to the neighborhood where they’d trick-or-treated as kids. “Some love stories start with a bang,” Jake says. “Ours started with a candy bar and grew from there.”

The Halloween Wedding Proposal

Marcus wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Lisa, in a memorable way. Knowing her love for Halloween, he planned an elaborate scavenger hunt through their city. Each clue led her to a location significant to their relationship, decorated with Halloween decorations and small surprises.

The final clue brought Lisa to the park where they’d had their first date. Marcus had transformed the gazebo with string lights shaped like ghosts, pumpkins filled with flowers, and a trail of candles. When Lisa arrived, Marcus was waiting, dressed in a suit with a subtle Halloween twist—a bow tie printed with tiny bats.

“I wanted to show her that our love story deserves its own special chapter,” Marcus explains. “Halloween brought us together, so it felt right to start our forever on this holiday.”

Lisa said yes, and they’re planning a Halloween-themed wedding for next October. “He knows me so well,” she says, eyes sparkling. “It was perfect.”

Why Halloween Creates Sparks

There’s something uniquely powerful about Halloween. There’s electricity in the air. Maybe it’s the fog or the crispness of fall. We’re encouraged to get creative and step outside of our comfort zones. Costumes provide an icebreaker, and the festive atmosphere makes people more open to new connections.

Psychologists suggest that shared excitement and novelty can strengthen romantic bonds. Halloween offers both in abundance. Whether you’re navigating a haunted house or admiring someone’s clever costume, the holiday creates natural opportunities for interaction and laughter.

“Love is about finding someone who makes everyday feel like an adventure,” relationship expert Dr. Helen Carter notes. “Halloween romances often start with that sense of fun and spontaneity, which can be a strong foundation for lasting relationships.”

We loved with a love that was more than love.
